Migration

WooCommerce to Shopify migration

Moving a WooCommerce store onto Shopify, or straight onto Shopify Plus: what comes across, what has to be rebuilt, and what it costs.

We've delivered the WooCommerce route onto Shopify. The products are the easy part. The work is in the plugins, and in the WordPress site wrapped around the shop.

What a WooCommerce store is made of

The plugin stack

Payments, tax, shipping, subscriptions, wholesale pricing: in WooCommerce each is a plugin, and some have been customised. The first audit asks which are load-bearing, and what each one does.

Product data

Variable products, attributes and custom fields. Attributes map onto Shopify's product options and custom fields onto metafields, and a product that uses more attributes than Shopify's options allow is restructured before it moves.

The WordPress around it

Blog posts, landing pages and page-builder layouts. Shopify has a blog and pages, so the content moves; the layouts are rebuilt in the theme.

URLs and the redirect map

Shopify's URL structure is fixed, so almost every WooCommerce address changes. Every one gets a 301 redirect, prioritised by the inbound links it carries, and the map is verified again against the live store after cutover.

WooCommerce (default) Shopify
Products /product/oak-bench/ /products/oak-bench
Categories /product-category/garden/ /collections/garden
Blog posts /2024/05/choosing-oak/ /blogs/news/choosing-oak
Pages /delivery-information/ /pages/delivery-information

Illustrative addresses. WooCommerce permalinks are configurable, so the real map starts from a crawl of your store.

Where each plugin's job goes

Shopify does in the platform much of what WooCommerce needed a plugin for. The rest goes to an app or is rebuilt, and each line belongs in the cost model.

Payments

Shopify Payments or a supported gateway. Saved cards belong to the old gateway and don’t move.

Tax and VAT

Shopify’s own tax settings, checked against every exception the old plugin handled.

Shipping rates

Shopify shipping profiles, or a rates app where the old plugin calculated something bespoke.

Subscriptions

A subscriptions app. Recurring billing is re-established, never moved, so it’s planned as its own workstream.

Trade and wholesale

Shopify B2B, on every plan since April 2026: company accounts, trade catalogues, payment terms.

Custom fields

Shopify metafields, mapped field by field before the data moves.

SEO plugin

Titles and descriptions carried across page by page, old against new, so nothing that ranks is lost.

Page builder

Rebuilt in the Shopify theme. Page-builder markup doesn’t carry across cleanly.

Customers and order history

Customers, addresses and order history move, reconciled count against count on every trial run. Passwords can't: customers set a new one, and how they're told is decided before cutover.

Subscriptions and saved cards belong to the old payment gateway. Where a store has them, re-establishing recurring billing is the largest risk in the move, and it's handled as its own workstream.

Plus or Advanced, and what the move costs

Advanced may be enough. Plus is the answer when checkout logic has to be customised, when trade pricing needs more than three catalogues, or when the business needs expansion stores for other markets. What Plus changes.

Crossdock's working band is £15,000 to £25,000 for a migration delivered as prime contractor, with £10,000 as a floor for a simple move. The price is fixed against a written scope and paid in full or across three milestones: project start, interim review and go-live.

The Shopify licence is separate and paid to Shopify. The stages, the cutover and the rollback are on how a migration runs.

WooCommerce to Shopify: questions

How do I migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Audit which plugins are load-bearing, map every old URL to its new address, move products, customers and orders with repeated trial runs, rebuild what the plugins did in Shopify settings or apps, then cut over on a rehearsed plan with the old store kept ready to switch back to.

Can I keep my SEO when moving from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Yes, with a complete redirect map. Shopify’s URL structure is fixed, so WooCommerce product and category addresses change, and every one needs a 301 redirect, prioritised by the inbound links each URL carries. Titles and descriptions move page by page.

Do customer passwords move from WooCommerce to Shopify?

No. Customer accounts and order history move, but passwords can’t, so customers are asked to set a new one. Decide how they’re told before cutover, not in a surprise email.

Do I need Shopify Plus after WooCommerce?

Not always. Advanced may be enough. Plus is the answer when checkout logic has to be customised, when trade pricing needs more than three catalogues, or when the business needs expansion stores for other markets.

Moving off WooCommerce

Tell us which plugins the store runs, roughly how many products and orders it holds, and what it connects to. We'll reply with how the move would be scoped.
